ARGAN OIL - "Liquid Gold" of Morocco

100% Pure Argan oil

What Is Argan Oil?
Pure Argan oil is Argan oil that has not been mixed with any other oils, including essential oils.
Why is Argan oil's purity often questioned?
Argan oil is one of the most expansive oils in the world due to high demand and low supply. As a result it is being counterfeited like Louis Vuitton, Gucci, or any other sought after luxury commodity.
Some people say they can tell if Argan oil is pure and they claim that pure Argan oil can be recognized by color, smell, or consistency. The fact is that these people are poorly educated about Argan oil's properties and scientific findings.
Why it is difficult, if not impossible, to detect dilution in Argan oil:
Argan tree's high biodiversity level
In selective breeding and manmade monocultures plants are almost identical genetically and so are their crops.
Argan trees grow naturally in the wild. As a result the genetic diversity is very rich.
Yields vary from one tree to another and from one year to another depending on the rainfall amounts or the level of drought.
The location where a tree grows: uphill, on a flat plain, or in a valley, also has a significant impact.
The quality, color, aroma, and consistency of Argan oil vary with these factors making it difficult to recognize pure Argan oil by visual or olfactory senses.
Oils emulsify so well with each other that it is almost impossible to detect dilution by human senses alone
This is particularly difficult when Argan oil has been diluted with small amounts of other oils (up to 20%).
When Argan oil is mixed with “similar” oils in terms of color and consistency, dilution with greater amounts than 20% would still be difficult to detect.
How to recognize pure Argan oil?
At the University of Marrakesh, Université Cadi Ayyad, Professor Abedellatif Hafidi, who is the Head of the Biology Department, Food Sciences lab has conducted research on Argan oil for over a decade and has extensive knowledge on the topic. According to him there is only way to ascertain whether Argan oil is pure: laboratory testing!
Why is diluted Argan oil bad?
The worst aspect of diluting Argan oil is that it is usually cut with cheap poor-quality oils.
Because high quality oils are expensive, unscrupulous suppliers driven only by greed, mix Argan oil with the cheapest oils. In Morocco these are called “Huiles de Table”. These oils are processed with additives and are not 100% natural.
Another dark side of diluted Argan oil is the total lack of honesty toward the customer. The customer does not get what he paid for. He does not enjoy the full benefits of pure Argan oil.
What if Argan oil is cheap?
"If it's too good to be true, then it probably is"
Like any other commodity Argan oil price is determined by supply and demand. As demand rises, prices follow, especially when supply is tight.
Let’s look closely at the facts:
Argan oil supply
Argan trees are found only in the south west of Morocco in a small growing area, approximately 830,000 hectares
600 hectares of Argan forest are swallowed by advancing desert every year. Argan oil supply is not just limited it is declining!
Because UNESCO has classified Argan tree as an endangered species and prohibited its heavy exploitation, it is not possible to increase Argan oil supply in the short term
Argan oil demand:
The world demand for Argan oil has been soaring the last five years due to:
Argan oil has been popular in Europe and the USA for sometime now.
Countries with large populations such as Russia, Japan, China, the Middle East, Australia, and India have discovered the benefits of Argan oil and have joined the list of importing countries. New Zealanders are also now becoming more aware of argan oil based products appearing on the shelf.
Moroccan Sunset is proud to be able to supply 100% pure, Ecocert certified organic argan oil 'Downunder".
Do all brands offer pure Argan oil?
Not all brands offer pure Argan oil even if they claim it. A very low price could be indicative that the oil is diluted but not always. Some of the more famous brands contain less than 10% argan oil and are very expensive!
While some vendors might sell mixed Argan oil knowingly because they only care about profit, we know that many fall victims to unscrupulous suppliers. Unfortunately they are not aware themselves that their Argan oil is not pure.
Why is it different for Argana Vita?
We do not take our supplier's word for it. Our oil undergoes quality testing in a reputable laboratory in Morocco.
There are different tests to perform, but the most important ones are:
1. Identifying sterols that are foreign to Argan oil. These can only come from other oils and their presence is proof that Argan oil has been diluted
2. Verifying that the percentages of fatty acids are coherent with the normal levels in Argan oil.

BEWARE OF FAKES.

FORGET THE REST & BUY THE BEST!
